What To Expect From A Home Inspection

Whether you’re selling your current home, or you’re shopping for a new house, chances are that you’ll need a home inspection at some point in the process. So, what can you expect from a home inspection?

Understanding Inspections – The Major Sections Of Your House Inspectors Will Examine

Home inspectors are hired to perform a detailed walk-through of the home that you’re looking to buy, and give a comprehensive review of the following sections of the home:

General Physical Structure – Typically, the first thing that an inspector does is inspect the entire physical structure of the home, including the ceilings, roof, floors, walls, doors, windows, and other basic structural elements of the house, to ensure that they are free of major issues.

Plumbing And Electrical Systems – The inspector will test every faucet, spout, and plumbing fixture in your home, as well as perform an inspection of visible pipes and other elements of your plumbing.

Electrical Systems – Fuse boxes and circuit breakers are tested, as are light switches, power outlets, and other electrical systems.

Major Appliances – Major appliances such as HVAC systems, furnaces, water heaters, and solar panels or other such items, if applicable, will be tested and examined.

Attics And Crawl Spaces – Home inspectors will typically inspect attics, and may also inspect crawl spaces, though they may need to use specialized cameras or other tools if the space is not physically accessible

Basements – Home inspectors often focus on basements, as there can be quite a few issues like water damage, pest infestations, and other issues with basements, especially if they were poorly maintained.

Throughout this process, the inspector will be taking notes, pictures, and other information about the home being examined.
